Victoria Street and Bridge Road traders protest this afternoon to demand The city of Yarra Council to stop its plan to increase parking fees on their street.

The council plans  to increase parking to $4 per hour and to introduce paid parking on Sundays at Victoria St, Richmond, where it is currently free.

According to the Herald Sun, "Mayor Roberto Colanzi said parking rates were better than neighbouring councils for on-street parking, with Melbourne charging $5.50 and Stonnington $5 per hour on average"

Victoria street parking example is very different with Melbourne CBD of Burke Street or Stonnington of Chapel street in terms of attracting crowds.  Melbourne City Council and Stonnington City Council are investing more money on their streets to attract different people. Our visitors have perception of Victoria street is not clean and safe. So we haven't get the basic thing right with drug trade, cleaning and other facilities for visitors yet.

"The changes are a part of the council’s draft budget, which is expected to be adopted at the June 7 council meeting" from the Herald Sun.
